FEEDING OFF OUR EMOTIONS
FOR PROFIT
By Jeanette Raymond, Ph.D.
The Corsair. November 20th, 1996
Extract: Every year the diet and weight control industry sells the public a falsehood, and makes $33 billion in the process. The falsehood is that we humans only eat when we are hungry and stop when we are full. The reality is that we are governed more by mood than hunger. We eat more when we are feeling down, and a lot less if we are on cloud nine. ………..when life isn’t satisfying our needs, we feel empty and don’t distinguish between physical and emotional hunger…………No manufacturer of diet products dares share this observation with us for fear of losing the fat profits they make from our naiveté.

FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT
? Good for You ( and your kids too)!
Children magazine, August 1997
Extract: Bad fighting is unproductive and debilitating for parents and the children on the sidelines. It assumes that partners should be aware of each other’s feeling without having to be told what these are…….Good fighting creates a safety net so that risks can be taken when expressing hurt and anger. You benefit when you realize that quarrels are not fatal and that the family grows into a tighter unit by surviving. Your children benefit from your good fighting when they witness that disagreements are part of life and not something to be scared of. They become inoculated against the stomach-churning fear of loss.
